English Department
The English Department is a team of
committed teachers who aim to sustain and stimulate students' enthusiasm for and enjoyment of English. Lessons take place in an environment and atmosphere where pupils desire to achieve and are engaged actively in their learning.
Pupils are taught in mixed-ability groups. A variety of teaching methods are used and an extensive range of resources that allow all pupils to have equal access to the curriculum and to experience success and enjoyment in their work.
Key Stage 3 Schemes of Work are designed to build on and extend the skills and knowledge that pupils have developed during Key Stage 2 and to prepare them for the English and English Literature GCSE courses during Key Stage 4. English Language and English Literature continue to be popular and successful subjects in the sixth form.
The department enhances the curriculum regularly by organising additional opportunities for the pupils to engage in activities that will enrich their experiences of English. These have recently included visits by Shakespeare in Schools, a theatre visit to see Animal Farm, a GCSE poetry day, Key Stage 3 booster lessons for Year 9 and additional progress classes for Year 7.
