Attendance

With the intention of enabling all students to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them, St Neots Community College aims to encourage excellent levels of attendance and punctuality.

Registration:

Registration is carried out at 8.55 and at 2.00.  Registers are marked promptly at these times and will be closed at 9.15 and 2.30 respectively.  Should a student arrive after the start of registration but before the registers have closed he/she will be marked as late for that session.

Absences

All absences will be recorded as either authorised or unauthorised.  Should an explanation for an absence not be received or should the explanation be deemed unsatisfactory then that absence will be recorded as unauthorised.  (Absence will not be authorised for such reasons as shopping, daytrips and birthdays.)

Parents are required to contact the school on the first day of any absence.  A written note of any such phone call or other communication will be recorded by reception and given to the relevant tutor.  On returning to school the student should bring a written note and hand this to his/her tutor.  The tutor should initial and date the note and mark/amend the register accordingly.  (Notes should be stored in the register for no longer than six weeks; thereafter they should either be destroyed or, if there are concerns about a student's attendance, placed in his/her file.)

Lateness

Students who arrive at school after morning or afternoon registration should sign in at reception, entering their time of arrival and the reason for their lateness in the Late-book.  Tutors regularly inspect the Late-book and if necessary will liaise with their House Leader.  Students who arrive at school late should not be admitted to class until they have signed in at reception.  This is important for health and safety reasons.

Truancy Call

The College subscribes to the Truancy Call system, whereby parents are notified by text or automated voice call when a student is absent and no reason is provided.
